5-Second De-Stress Tips

It's no secret that we all need a break from the back-to-back Zoom meetings in front of your computer or from the constant back pain that you are trying to fix for months now. Often, a few seconds is all we have to de-stress and reduce anxiety.

Breathing is a necessity of life that usually occurs without much thought. When you breathe in air, blood cells receive oxygen and release carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is a waste product that's carried back through your body and exhaled.

Here are three easy relaxation techniques to reduce anxiety, fight mental fatigue, and enhance your performance.

Breathing Exercise

If you think breathing comes naturally, think again. While improper breathing could cause anxiety and panic attacks, a simple 30-second breathing exercise could be your go-to stress-reliever. Follow below three simple steps to start "breathing":

  • Find your favorite chair or sofa, comfortably relaxing your back and body
  • Inhale slowly through your nose for two seconds
  • Exhale through your mouth for four seconds, puckering your lips as if you were to whistle. Repeat for a few times

Quick Stretch

Let's be honest, a quick stretch is practically unbeatable after you have been staring at your computer screens for hours. Especially when you're already stressed out, a short stretch routine will help you loosen up (literally). Follow below three steps to stretch out your upper back. This stretching exercise is especially effective for those who work long hours in front of their computers.

  • Move towards the edge of your chair so that your feet are flat on the floor
  • Interlock your fingers and reach upward as if you were pushing the ceiling
  • Repeat a few times throughout the day

The reason a stretch is so effective is that you are progressively re-connecting with your body. But don't just take our word for it--- try it yourself!
